THE PROCESS

STEP TWO

STEP THREE

Consult & Sample Edit

The Agreements

Onboarding

Before we start working together, you'll send me 1,000 words of your manuscript, and I'll provide a sample edit (line and copy edits only).

Next, we'll book a consult call, where we'll discuss the vision of your novel, your goals, and address any questions you might have.

If we decide we're a good fit, we move forward!

Now that you've decided to move forward, I'll send the contract and deposit invoice your way.

Once you accept the terms of our agreement and make your first payment, we'll start the onboarding process.

Keep an eye on your inbox!

It's time to start making some magic!

Your onboarding packet includes your welcome to the Ladner Editorial fam, what to expect from the editorial process, access to your Author Portal and our shared Google Drive folder, and a questionnaire that helps me get to know your novel better.

Are you getting excited yet!?

STEP FOUR

Editing

It's finally time for me to buckle down and get to work editing your novel!

In your Author Portal, I will be updating you weekly, adding notes of encouragement, and sending payment reminders (if you're on a payment plan).

During this phase, you can sit back and relax or get started on a new project!

STEP FIVE

Delivery & Final Call

On our agreed project due date, I'll send you the final invoice.

Once paid, your marked-up manuscript, my detailed feedback, and a thank you packet will be unlocked for you to view!

You'll have 4 weeks to review the edits, then we'll schedule our final call to address any questions you have and discuss your next steps!

STEP SIX

Time to Revise

Here's where the real magic happens!

Equipped with new feedback, you get to return to your story and start making your changes, bringing you one step closer to realizing your author dreams and publishing your novel!

THE FAQs

What genres do you edit?

Fantasy is my first love—and the focus of Ladner Editorial—however, I love working with many genres!

Whether your story is an epic fantasy, a swoon-worthy romance, a futuristic sci-fi, or a captivating murder mystery, you've come to the right place!

Non-fiction is not generally a genre I work with. However, I'd be happy to chat!

What is your editing style?

My feedback will always be a balanced mix of actionable, solutions-based comments (to help strengthen your story and suggest improvements), my authentic reactions as a reader (to let you know how the story is being perceived), and marks of praise (to let you know what's working well and why)!

What is your standard turnaround time?

The editing process varies project-to-project, but here's a general breakdown:

  • Developmental editing: 6-8 weeks
  • Line editing: 4-6 weeks
  • Copy editing: 2-4 weeks

The exact timeline for your manuscript will be discussed in our consultation!

Does my manuscript need to be finished before I book an editing service with you?

It depends!

While we absolutely could work together at any stage of the writing process, ideally your manuscript would be nearly finished. However, some authors want help on multiple drafts, not only the final one. It's really dependent on your preference, budget, and goals.

Coaching is another great option if you're looking for help while writing! Check out my mentorship program here

Can we chat before I commit to working with you?

Absolutely!

Editing is a big investment, so it's best you're 100% ready.

Why do I need to sign a contract?

Not only does signing a contract protect us both, but it will also outline the scope of the project and the responsibilities for each of us!

Do you offer a payment plan?

My standard payment plan is as follows:

I would also be happy to discuss a customized payment plan to help make editing your novel possible!

40% due at booking
30% due before I begin
30% due before the delivery of your final edits

How do I pay my invoice?

Your invoice can be found on the Author Portal. I process each invoice with Stripe and accept all major debit and credit cards.

Why do you require a deposit?

The deposit holds your spot! Once we agree on the terms of our contract and I receive your deposit, your slot is held, ensuring no other project interferes with yours.

The deposit is non-refundable.

Do you offer any discounts?

I offer a few types of discounts:

I also offer discounted packages when you book multiple services at once! See the packages here

Book one editorial service with me and get 10% off all subsequent services.

10% off for military-affiliated writers.

Save $150 when you pay in full on any editorial, coaching, or custom web design service.

I can't afford editing, but still need help!

I believe that writing, editing, and publishing resources should be accessible to everyone! That's why I offer various guides, courses, and services for all budgets.
