TM
Developmental editing is all about the big picture. It assesses how your manuscript works as a whole and helps drive your story forward. This is where we'll focus on story structure, plot, pacing, character development, worldbuilding, POV, dialogue, and more!
This type of edit is best for writers who:

A manuscript evaluation is a faster, lighter alternative to a full developmental edit. You'll receive detailed, actionable feedback on the big-picture aspects (like plot, structure, characters, etc.), without the deep-dive scene work and in-line comments of a full edit.

The Agreements
Onboarding
Before we start working together, you'll send me the first 10 pages of your manuscript, and I'll provide a sample edit.
If you have any questions or need a little more information about the service before getting started, we'll discuss the particulars via email.
If we decide we're a good fit, we move forward!
Now that you've decided to move forward, I'll send the contract and deposit invoice your way.
Once you accept the terms of our agreement and make your first payment, we'll start the onboarding process.
Keep an eye on your inbox!
It's time to start making some magic!
Your onboarding packet includes your welcome to the Ladner Editorial fam, what to expect from the editorial process, access to your Author Portal and our shared Google Drive folder, and a questionnaire that helps me get to know your novel better.
Are you getting excited yet!?
STEP FOUR
Editing
It's finally time for me to buckle down and get to work editing your novel!
In your Author Portal, I will be updating you weekly, adding notes of encouragement, and sending payment reminders (if you're on a payment plan).
During this phase, you can sit back and relax or get started on a new project!
STEP FIVE
Delivery & Final Call
On our agreed project due date, I'll send you the final invoice.
Once paid, your marked-up manuscript and the editorial letter will be uploaded to our shared Google Drive folder for you to view!
You'll have 4 weeks to review the edits, then we'll schedule our final call to address any questions you have and discuss your next steps!
STEP SIX
Time to Revise
Here's where the real magic happens!
Equipped with new feedback, you get to return to your story and start making your changes, bringing you one step closer to realizing your author dreams and publishing your novel!
Are you ready to make Manuscript Magic?
STEP ONE
I'm ready for my FREE sample edit
Fantasy is my first love—and the focus of Ladner Editorial. However, I love working with romance as well (especially romantasy)!
My feedback will always be a balanced mix of actionable, solutions-based comments (to help strengthen your story), my authentic reactions as a reader (to let you know how the story is being perceived), and marks of praise (to let you know what's working well and why)!
For developmental editing, yes. I require the manuscript to be its most polished/finished version.
However, some authors want help with multiple drafts, not only the final one. It's really dependent on your preference, budget, and goals.
If you're looking for help while writing, check out my coaching programs here
Absolutely!
I do, however, charge a separate reading fee for earlier books. That way, I can familiarize myself with your world to ensure continuity!
Absolutely! Editing is a big investment, so it's best you're 100% ready.
I'm more than happy to address any questions and concerns you have via email (or Instagram DMs)!
Not only does signing a contract protect us both, but it will also outline the scope of the project and the responsibilities for each of us!
My standard payment plan is as follows:
I would also be happy to discuss a customized payment plan to help make editing your novel possible!
20% retainer due at booking
40% due before I begin
40% due before the delivery of your final edits
Your invoice can be found on the Author Portal. I process each invoice with Stripe and accept all major debit and credit cards.
The retainer holds your spot on my calendar! Once we agree on the terms of our contract and I receive your payment, your slot is held, ensuring no other project interferes with yours.
The retainer is non-refundable.
I offer a few types of discounts:
Book one editorial service with me and get 10% off all subsequent services.
10% off for military-affiliated writers.
Save $150 when you pay in full for developmental editing or Book Fairy Mentorship.
Whether you're looking for developmental editing to bring your story to life or a mentor to guide you on your epic writing journey, you've come to the right place!
Are you ready to make some magic?
You've spent months—maybe years—on your book baby.
But chances are, you're too close to the manuscript to see that it's overflowing with filler words, weak verbs, and vague descriptions.
Don't worry. I've got you!
Inside, you'll find my list of the top 100 overused words I see as a book editor (and better replacements) to help you strengthen your manuscript, polish your prose, and make Manuscript Magic™ during self-edits!
