My Speciality!

Developmental editing is all about the big picture. It assesses how your manuscript works as a whole and helps drive your story forward. This is where we'll focus on story structure, plot, pacing, character development, worldbuilding, POV, dialogue, and more!

This type of edit is best for writers who:

Manuscript Eval

A manuscript evaluation is a faster, lighter alternative to a full developmental edit. You'll receive detailed, actionable feedback on the big-picture aspects (like plot, structure, characters, etc.), without the deep-dive scene work and in-line comments of a full edit.

This type of edit is best for writers who:

Want professional insight before investing in a full developmental edit.

Have a finished draft but feel stuck.

The Agreements

Onboarding

Before we start working together, you'll send me the first 10 pages of your manuscript, and I'll provide a sample edit.

If you have any questions or need a little more information about the service before getting started, we'll discuss the particulars via email.

If we decide we're a good fit, we move forward!

Now that you've decided to move forward, I'll send the contract and deposit invoice your way.

Once you accept the terms of our agreement and make your first payment, we'll start the onboarding process.

Keep an eye on your inbox!

It's time to start making some magic!

Your onboarding packet includes your welcome to the Ladner Editorial fam, what to expect from the editorial process, access to your Author Portal and our shared Google Drive folder, and a questionnaire that helps me get to know your novel better.

It's finally time for me to buckle down and get to work editing your novel!

THE FAQs

What genres do you edit?

Fantasy is my first love—and the focus of Ladner Editorial. However, I love working with romance as well (especially romantasy)!

What is your editing style?

My feedback will always be a balanced mix of actionable, solutions-based comments (to help strengthen your story), my authentic reactions as a reader (to let you know how the story is being perceived), and marks of praise (to let you know what's working well and why)!

What is your standard turnaround time?

The editing process varies project-to-project and depends on factors such as complexity and word count, but here's a general breakdown:

  • Developmental editing: 4-8+ weeks
  • Manuscript eval: 3-4+ weeks

I'll include a more precise timeline with your quote!

Does my manuscript need to be finished before I book an editing service with you?

For developmental editing, yes. I require the manuscript to be its most polished/finished version.

However, some authors want help with multiple drafts, not only the final one. It's really dependent on your preference, budget, and goals.

Can you edit the later books in my series if you didn't edit the first one?

Absolutely!

I do, however, charge a separate reading fee for earlier books. That way, I can familiarize myself with your world to ensure continuity!

What is your availability?

I am now booking for JULY 2026 and beyond!

Can we chat before I commit to working with you?

Absolutely! Editing is a big investment, so it's best you're 100% ready.

I'm more than happy to address any questions and concerns you have via email (or Instagram DMs)!

Why do I need to sign a contract?

Not only does signing a contract protect us both, but it will also outline the scope of the project and the responsibilities for each of us!

Do you offer a payment plan?

My standard payment plan is as follows:

I would also be happy to discuss a customized payment plan to help make editing your novel possible!

20% retainer due at booking
40% due before I begin
40% due before the delivery of your final edits

How do I pay my invoice?

Your invoice can be found on the Author Portal. I process each invoice with Stripe and accept all major debit and credit cards.

Why do you require a retainer?

The retainer holds your spot on my calendar! Once we agree on the terms of our contract and I receive your payment, your slot is held, ensuring no other project interferes with yours.

The retainer is non-refundable.

Do you offer any discounts?

I offer a few types of discounts:

Book one editorial service with me and get 10% off all subsequent services.

10% off for military-affiliated writers.

Save $150 when you pay in full for developmental editing or Book Fairy Mentorship.

I can't afford editing, but still need help!

I believe that writing, editing, and publishing resources should be accessible to everyone! That's why I offer various guides, courses, and services for all budgets.
